Foreign Agents

Since 2023, the Georgian government has tried to implement the “Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence” — a law that could have come directly from the Kremlin. It labels media outlets and civil society organizations that receive more than a certain amount of funding from abroad as “foreign agents.” Although it was widely protested, the law was passed in May 2024, raising concerns about increased state surveillance and further straining Georgia’s relations with the European Union.
